In less than a week, Bills fans will get to see what players will be coming to Western New York and join the Buffalo Bills. With Buffalo being at No. 26 in the first round and not having a second round pick, no one would be surprised if the Bills were a team that trades back or even out of the first round.
The Bills could also stay put and draft either for need or even just the best player available. You could make the argument for either option. Either way, we will know next Thursday.
There are three positions of need for the Bills; wide receiver, edge rusher, and linebacker. Fans may also argue that defensive tackle is a need considering that Buffalo couldn’t stop the run last year. We can’t, however, forget that the Bills traded up for both T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker in last year’s draft. Now granted, Sanders could easily get bumped to edge rusher and the Bills still have Ed Oliver as well.
If the Bills were thinking about going with defensive tackle, the first name that should come to mind is Kayden McDonald out of Ohio State. There also might be a chance that maybe he is gone before No. 26 and if that is the case, then Buffalo should avoid drafting a defensive tackle in the first round, but that’s not what they do in a mock draft that was put together by Ian Harper of NFL Mocks.
NFL mock draft has Bills fans upset with first round reach
In Harper’s mock draft, the Bills end up making a massive mistake with drafting Florida defensive tackle Caleb Banks in the first round.
"Banks is more flash than substance as a prospect, but unlocking his traits could result in a deadly pass-rusher. He's an athletic freak who can be justified as the best pass-rushing defensive lineman in the class, and Buffalo would certainly welcome his upside next to Deone Walker on their defensive front." said Harper.
The Bills don’t need potential upside anymore. They need someone who can come in and produce right away. The championship window that the Bills have open won’t be open forever. The Bills have gone the route of drafting and developing for the future. Now, they need to get immediate impact from their players in order to capitalize on doing what Sean McDermott couldn’t do…getting to and winning the Super Bowl.
If the Bills had a second round pick, then maybe Banks could be an option there. However, spending a first round pick who has had 48 total tackles and 6.5 sacks in four seasons in college is not the best choice.
