When you look at what the Buffalo Bills did this past offseason, the two biggest moves that the team made was promoting Joe Brady to head coach from offensive coordinator, and also traded for wide receiver DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears. There were a ton of additions (and subtractions) that the Bills made as they prepare for a new era in Orchard Park.

They also hit a home run with hiring Jim Leonhard as their next defensive coordinator, but his switch to a 3-4 scheme put the Bills in a spot where they needed to find players who could fit his scheme. One of those players came right from the AFC East in edge rusher Bradley Chubb, who had been with the Miami Dolphins since 2022.

The biggest knock on Chubb is his injury, which includes missing the 2024 season due to a torn ACL late in 2023. However, in his last two healthy seasons (2023 & 2025), Chubb has put up 19.5 sacks and now he will be looking to be a leader in Buffalo’s defense in their first year under a new scheme for the first time in nearly a decade.

Bradley Chubb should be viewed as immediate leader for new defense in Buffalo

Jeremy Bergman from NFL.com put together storylines for each AFC East team heading into training camp which will kick off here in just a few weeks. One of Bergman’s storylines surrounding the Bills focused on Chubb and how he is “chasing a big season”.

"As one of Buffalo's only notable offseason additions, Bradley Chubb meets the Bills at a critical time for both the team and the player. Chubb is coming off a solid comeback season from his torn ACL, logging 8.5 sacks for the Dolphins in 2025 and playing a full slate of games for the first time since his rookie campaign." said Bergman.

"Entering the fray alongside second-round pick T.J. Parker, Chubb will be tasked with captaining a front seven that struggled to frustrate Trevor Lawrence and Bo Nix in the 2025 postseason. Chubb, 30, has expressed that he's never been hungrier. Buffalo is starving for a true game-wrecker off the edge." Bergman added.

Buffalo’s pass rush in recent memory has been very inconsistent, and they have had some notable edge rushers like Von Miller and Joey Bosa. Miller was replaced by Bosa, and now Bosa has been replaced by Chubb. However, with a new defensive scheme, Bills fans will now hopefully get to see more production coming off the edge.

Not to mention, the drafting of T.J. Parker also puts Chubb in a perfect spot to mentor him while both are in Buffalo.

Despite the changes the Bills went through this offseason, they are still viewed as a championship contender and Chubb should play an important role to keep the Bills in the Super Bowl bubble in 2026.
