In his second tenure with the Buffalo Bills, quarterback Mitch Trubisky finds himself in a bit of a QB2 battle with fellow teammate, Mike White. Both quarterbacks shined in the Bills’ first preseason game so the competition will continue on this Sunday when the team heads to Chicago to take on the Bears.
Trubisky and the Bears are very familiar with each other, seeing as how the Bears traded up in the 2017 draft to select Trubisky out of North Carolina. He spent just four seasons with the Bears, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2018 but did not live up to the expectations of being the No. 2 overall pick.
He had one season of 20+ passing touchdowns and had two seasons of double digit interceptions. The Bears opted to move on from him and Trubisky signed with the Bills in 2021. After getting a bit of a reset that season, Trubisky signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022 but would only play in 12 games in two seasons with them.
Trubisky signed back with the Bills last offseason and is now competing for the backup position to Josh Allen in a contract year. He will have the perfect opportunity to lock up the QB2 spot against his former team this Sunday in Chicago.
QB Mitch Trubisky has big opportunity to secure QB2 spot against Bears
This will be the second time where Trubisky will face off against his old team in the preseason. Back in 2021, the Bills traveled to Chicago for a preseason matchup and Trubisky had a massive day against his former team. In that game, Trubisky went 20/28 for 221 yards and one touchdown. Buffalo went on to win big against the Bears, 41-15.
It would be quite the story to see a similar result with Trubisky just like we saw a few years ago. He goes into the house of the organization that drafted him, and he shines once again. Quite frankly, it would be hilarious.
Maybe Mike White will show up again like he did against the Giants. But if Trubisky exceeds expectations and helps the Bills offense gain momentum throughout the game, he may get the nod as QB2 going into the regular season.
