During the second night of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills finally made their first pick after trading down three times in Round 1 with the Houston Texans, New England Patriots, and Tennessee Titans. Those trades gave them an additional two picks to add to their roster needs. While fans may have became restless waiting for the Bills to make a draft selection, adding more picks was valuable considering the needs that this roster has.

The Bills selected EDGE T.J. Parker from Clemson with the 35th pick. He will definitely fill a needed role for the Bills, as they will switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense this season under new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, who will look to change the narrative of this defense that has been a liability for the last couple of seasons.

With Parker's ability to stop the run and aggressively bring the ball carrier down, you could make the case that the way he plays the game is very similiar to four-time All-Pro edge rusher, T.J. Watt. That may be a bold statement, but is it really?

Examining T.J. Parker's comparison to T.J. Watt

Both Parker and Watt are very similar in size. Parker stands at 6-foot-3, 265 pounds, while Watt stands at 6-foot-4, 252 pounds.

Parker is a hefty-handed controlled player. He uses his 33-inch arms to block out tackles. He is a powerful player who uses a power-to-speed approach.

Watt is similar as he also uses his 33-inch arms to generate separation from tackles, permitting them to check the commitment instead of getting eaten up.

They are both very regimented edge-setting in their run defense. While the two defensive ends don't look for sacks, they have the power to battle forceful guards and pressure running backs into staggering out of bounds.

Their most comparable trait is their persistent chase for the football. Both players are commended for their football intelligence. They have a high-IQ awareness of what is going on on the field at all times. Misdirections seldom fools them, and they can determine the outcomes themselves.

The most important trait Parker will bring to help the Bills is his persistent, nonstop motor. Both players initiate explosive plays away from their starting positions, often leading to sacks.

With Parker joining Greg Rousseau and Bradley Chubb, he should be an asset to the team for both the short and long-term future.
