The wait is finally over, Bills Mafia. The Buffalo Bills have made their first selection of the NFL Draft and they selected edge rusher T.J. Parker out of Clemson. The Bills had a need to bring in some EDGE help and getting Parker is a bit of a steal for Jim Leonhard’s defense.
With the Bills moving Greg Rousseau to outside linebacker opposite of Bradley Chubb, Parker should now be able to step in and fill the gap that Buffalo had coming off the edge. Parker had been mocked to the Bills at different times in the pre-draft process, and now he is officially coming to Western New York.
With the Bills taking Parker early in the second, they take care of a big need and Leonhard should be excited that he gets someone who was productive in college and had a breakout 2024 season with the Tigers.
T.J. Parker provides Bills huge value as defense continues to be revamped
In three seasons with the Tigers, Parker had 127 total tackles along with 21.5 sacks and 6 forced fumbles. In 2024 specifically, Parker had career highs in total tackles (57), sacks (11), and forced fumbles (6). Had he come out of college into the draft last year, he would have easily been a first round pick.
Instead, the Bills get him as a steal in the second round a year later and now it will be up to Buffalo to develop him and get the best out of his play.
When it was announced that the Bills were hiring Jim Leonhard as their next defensive coordinator, fans knew that changes were coming for the better. Buffalo is going to become more aggressive and attack the ball rather than just the player. Getting a player like Parker fits this scheme as he brings a lot of power with his game.
The defense still needs more pieces added for Leonhard, but getting Parker is a solid start for Buffalo. It doesn’t just take care of a need, it gives the Bills a chance to bring in a true pass rusher that can do more than just stop the run. For many years now, the Bills have struggled to find their franchise pure edge rusher who can chase down quarterbacks.
With Parker being the choice for Buffalo, fans are hoping that Parker can become the difference maker for Buffalo’s defense.
