One player that a lot of NFL fans are shocked to see still available on the free agent market is wide receiver Amari Cooper, who was traded from the Browns to the Bills in the middle of the season last year.
The five-time Pro Bowler had a decline last season (switching teams in the middle of the season is hard enough, let alone getting injured too), but it was just his third time in his career where he didn’t get 1,000+ yards in a season.
A lot of Bills fans thought he would come back to Buffalo for atleast one more full season but instead, the Bills signed other receivers in free agency and Cooper still has yet to be signed. With training camp coming up very soon, maybe there is a chance that he signs somewhere before Week 1.
Cooper is in a great position because he can choose where he wants to go, but there may not be many options for him. However, roster spots can become available so if he plans on playing this coming season he will need to pay close attention to where he could potentially land.
Latest landing spot for Amari Cooper has him facing Bills twice in 2025
Joshua Watt from NFL Spin Zone recently listed landing spots for Cooper that could make sense for him, but one of those spots was with the New York Jets which would be a bad move for Cooper. Here’s a bit on what Watt said about Cooper potentially joining the Jets:
"The New York Jets could be a solid destination for Cooper. They just extended star wideout Garrett Wilson, however outside of Wilson, the offense seriously lacks weapons on the outside. Next to Wilson the Jets have Josh Reynolds and Allen Lazard, who at this stage of their career are likely best used as WR3’s. With a new quarterback in Justin Fields, the Jets would be wise to add more proven weaponry on the outside."Joshua Watt, NFL Spin Zone
Outside of Garrett Wilson, the Jets don’t have any other threats at wide receiver so sure, Cooper would be a great addition for them. At the same time, Cooper can do better than the Jets. With a brand new regime in control and uncertainty at quarterback with Justin Fields, Cooper would be taking a big risk with his career of going to the Jets.
Not to mention, the Jets are not Super Bowl contenders at all let alone a competitive team in the AFC East. Will they be better? Not necessarily, but the culture should be a lot better under Aaron Glenn. For now though, Cooper is better off going somewhere he can actually win and have a shot at competing for a Super Bowl.
