Throughout history in the NFL, you could name endless amount of talented players who never got the opportunity to see the confetti drop after the Super Bowl. Heck, there has been a lot of them that didn’t have the chance to make it to the Super Bowl. The Buffalo Bills have had players in their history that didn’t get the chance to experience Super Bowl success, or even just playoff success.

The Bills have one of the worst memories in NFL history with losing four consecutive Super Bowls in the early 1990s. Then they went 17 seasons without making the playoffs before finally clinching a spot in 2017, just to get knocked in the first round by the Jacksonville Jaguars and only putting up three points.

Little did we know that after that playoff loss, the Bills would really start to turn things around and it started with the Bills finally drafting a franchise quarterback in Josh Allen. Since Buffalo brought Allen to Western New York, the Bills have been one of the most dominating teams in recent memory.

They have won five consecutive AFC East championships and Allen has established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. It seems like the Bills can do anything except for one thing: Beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs.

Four out of the last five postseasons for the Bills have ended in the Chiefs celebrating a playoff win and the Bills being forced to go home early. Buffalo has no issue at all beating the Chiefs in the playoffs, but that means nothing if they can’t do it when it’s go big or go home.

Will 2025 be the year the Bills can finally get past the Chiefs?

Assuming that both the Bills and Chiefs make it to the playoffs, it would be really hard not to see them face off once again with the winner either going to the conference title game or the Super Bowl. Even though the Chiefs have had the Bills’ number since the start of the decade, Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone believes that the Bills will be the team to beat in the AFC in 2025.

Scataglia created a power rankings list of the teams that are most likely to win the Super Bowl, which only includes six teams (Commanders, Ravens, Chiefs, Lions, Bills, and of course the Eagles). Out of six placements, Scataglia put the Bills as the No. 2 team who is most likely to win the Super Bowl in 2025, only behind the Eagles.

"The Buffalo Bills are the best team in the AFC right now and should be seen as the favorite in that conference to win it all in 2025. While they have not made the Super Bowl in the Josh Allen era, we all saw how the Bills played the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2024 NFL Season."

Scataglia also mentioned how the Bills have improved their roster while the Chiefs got weaker. You can make an argument for both sides of that debate, but there’s no doubt that the Chiefs are taking a huge risk on Jaylon Moore, who they signed to protect Patrick Mahomes despite not having a lot of playing time in his career.

We still have the NFL Draft to complete to get a better look at the rosters between the Bills and Chiefs, but Buffalo has more firepower right now and they improved their defensive line this offseason. Now, if the Bills manage to get past the Chiefs in the playoffs and end up having to face the Eagles, well then that might be a different story. Philadelphia has been so dominant the last few seasons and they are coming off a beatdown win against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

They should be the only team that truly stands in the way of taking any Super Bowl chances away from the Bills in 2025.
