We are moving on to Week 4 where the Buffalo Bills will be back in Orchard Park to host the 0-3 New Orleans Saints. Buffalo has got off to a fast 3-0 start and they are entering a very favorable part of their schedule. New Orleans has a tough time on offense and their defense being asked to stop Josh Allen is going to be beyond rough for them.
However, before this game takes place on Sunday, Pro Football Focus (PFF) recently gave some love to Bills’ offensive guard, David Edwards for his stellar performance against the Miami Dolphins in Week 3. Nick Akridge from PFF said that Edwards earned a Week 3 grade of 93.8 in run blocking.
"David Edwards was dominant Thursday night. He was specifically effective in the Bills’ zone-blocking scheme, with a 92.4 PFF run-block grade on zone runs. His 93.8 total run-blocking grade is the highest of his career. It was also the highest single-game run-blocking grade for any guard through three weeks."Nick Akridge, PFF
David Edwards' dominance could put Bills in tough contract position
The Bills have taken care of their own by extending multiple players this past offseason. However, they probably won’t be able to do it for everyone. Edwards is one of the two offensive lineman for the Bills that are in contract years (the other one being Connor McGovern).
The Bills could potentially start to run into problems where they are losing key underrated players that have helped them the last two seasons. Edwards, who came to Buffalo in 2023, earned a two-year extension in the offseason last year because he proved his worth and became a starter for Buffalo last season.
At the same time, the Bills have someone like Alec Anderson that they could re-sign instead of investing money into Edwards. McGovern is a bit more valuable to the offensive line as well so if anything, he should be the first priority for a contract extension.
However, we cannot ignore the value and production that Edwards has shown since coming to Buffalo. If he continues to be one of the top tier guards in the game throughout the season, the Bills will be faced with a huge decision on the offensive line that has helped keep Josh Allen clean in recent memory.
