The NFL offseason is always a wild ride when you throw in free agency and the NFL draft, but it gets even more exciting when big-name players are on the move. Almost every offseason, we see some of the league’s best players move from one team to another whether it’s through free agency or via trade. The Buffalo Bills have been no stranger to that setup.
In 2020, they traded for Stefon Diggs from the Minnesota Vikings. Then in 2022, they signed edge rusher Von Miller out of nowhere. Well, the Bills could be in a position to once again strike and acquire a big time player that has been heavily rumored to be on the move.
Las Vegas Raiders star defensive end Maxx Crosby may have very well played his last down as a Raider. He’s a star player that has not had the chance to experience any kind of success in the postseason and the Raiders are in a full rebuild, which includes having the No. 1 overall pick.
Crosby was shut down for the rest of the season and there was reported disagreement on the decision, but now he may not be a Raider for much longer. Jeremy Fowler from ESPN reported that Crosby “wants to be part of a winner. That’s the priority.”
Fowler also mentioned that Crosby has been rehabbing a knee injury in which he had surgery already and “plans to be ready for the early portion of the offseason program.” However, Ian Rapoport then reported that when it came to Crosby's knee injury, "Even a minor meniscus repair takes months of recovery. It might be a while if there is a Maxx Crosby trade" said Rapoport.
If Bills are interested in trading for Maxx Crosby, they need full clarity on the injury
The Bills are set to lose edge rushers Joey Bosa and A.J. Epenesa to free agency and while they have bigger needs on offense to take care of, they need to bring in an improvement coming off the edge. With new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard now in charge, the Bills are going to need players who can consistently attack the ball. Crosby is that kind of player for sure, but the cost to get him is going to be a lot.
When the Dallas Cowboys traded Micah Parson to the Green Bay Packers, they got a good haul that included two first-round picks. The Raiders could very well expect that same type of package, if not more for Crosby.
Brandon Beane is not afraid to be aggressive and try to improve the Bills, but sending a haul of picks that includes first-rounders for someone who now has had knee surgery can be a risk. If Buffalo is seriously interested in making a run for Crosby and are willing to part ways with a lot of picks, they need to make sure that he is fully ready to go before making that kind of investment.
