It wasn’t until the last couple of years when the Buffalo Bills solidified their offensive line to not just protect Josh Allen, but to also help create the best rushing attack in football. For the past two years, the offensive line featured Dion Dawkins, David Edwards, Connor McGovern, O’Cyrus Torrence, and Spencer Brown.

This unit has not just protected Allen in the pocket, but they helped James Cook become the league’s leading rusher last season. They have been one of the most stable units not just on the team, but in the NFL.

Going into free agency, the Bills had an important decision to make with two of their main protectors with David Edwards and Connor McGovern, both of whom were set to hit the open market. Right before the legal tampering period opened up, the Bills extended McGovern to a new four-year deal. That meant that Edwards was definitely out of Buffalo.

In the end, the Bills brought back the anchor to their offensive line with McGovern and Edwards cashed in with the New Orleans Saints on a four-year deal worth $61 million. Even though Edwards ended up leaving, Buffalo managed to bring back Alec Anderson and also sign Austin Corbett so there will be competition.

Bills' offensive line ranks among best units across NFL in power rankings

Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone put together an early power rankings list of the best offensive lines at this moment going into the 2026 season, and the Bills were ranked second only behind the Denver Broncos.

"With David Edwards departing in free agency, the lone spot along the Buffalo Bills offensive line up for grabs is that left guard spot, but long-time NFL veteran Austin Corbett could be the favorite to win that job. Alec Anderson figures to compete for it, too. The rest of the unit has all been together for a little while now, and we've really seen this group come together in the run game. It's hard to not love the Buffalo Bills offensive line for 2026." said Scataglia.

While most people think that Edwards was the biggest loss for the Bills in the trenches, their true biggest loss was Aaron Kromer, who ended up retiring from the NFL after Buffalo’s playoff exit against the Broncos. Kromer has been a solid coach for the offensive line for many seasons, but now it will be Pat Meyer in charge of the offensive line.

Meyer walks into a great situation with a good amount of continuity amongst the unit, with a little bit of competition for the left guard spot. He will be tasked to keep the consistency and find other ways to keep building them up.
