There has been a handful of times over the past two seasons where the Buffalo Bills have been a disappointment in their passing attack even though Josh Allen is the one under center. For as great and dynamic as Allen is, he can’t do every single little thing on a consistent basis to help the Bills win games.
When the Bills traded Stefon Diggs in April of 2024 to the Houston Texans, it started a revamp of the wide receiver room. Since then, it’s been inconsistency whether it was through free agency, via trade, or even during the NFL Draft. The only reliable true receiver that Allen has worked with the last two seasons has been Khalil Shakir.
Brandon Beane went out and traded for Josh Allen’s new No. 1 receiver in DJ Moore, who comes to Buffalo after playing five seasons in Carolina and then the last three with Chicago. The NFL is a “what have you done lately?” type of league, and based off of Moore’s stats the last two seasons don’t exactly backup the situation that Moore was in.
After having over 1,300 yards in 2023 in his first year with the Bears, Moore hasn’t reached 1,000 yards. Let’s not forget though that the Bears have added offensive weapons like Rome Odunze, D’Andre Swift, Luther Burden, and Colston Loveland. Someone was bound to drop a bit in production and that happened to be Moore.
Despite the little drop in production the last two seasons, Kay Adams for Up & Adams talked about how Moore is still a dominant No. 1 receiver, showing fans that Buffalo has the chance to do something great now that Moore is in the building.
Kay Adams reminds people the impact DJ Moore will have with Bills
“There’s this question, somehow, about whether or not DJ Moore is/can be/will be a WR1…If you try to sort of account for some of the variables that has been out of his control the last three seasons like three different playcallers, quarterback changes, he’s absolutely still at an elite position at the wide receiver spot.” said Adams.
“DJ is Top 5 at wide receiver. When it comes creating separation, he’s tied with Ja’Marr Chase there. He’s second in lowest drop rate in the league behind A.J. Brown, sixth in YAC, Top 10 in passer rating when targeted between his time with Justin Fields, Tyson Bagent, and Caleb Williams.” Adams added.
We might ALL be sleeping on Bills WR DJ Moore…

The stats say he's still a DOMINANT WR1 👀@idjmoore | @BuffaloBills | @heykayadams pic.twitter.com/mKcxoTl5w9
The chart that Adams provided focused on four categories over the last three seasons, with a minimum of 240 targets:
-Passer Rating When Targeted: 103.6 (9th)
-Average Separation Per Route: 3.1 (t-5th)
-Drop Rate: 2.2 (2nd)
-Yards After Catch: 1,410 yards (6th)
Again, the pairing of Moore and Buffalo is perfect. Moore gets a massive upgrade at quarterback and gets to be the true WR1 that Buffalo has been missing for two seasons. On the other hand, the Bills get themselves a proven playmaker who had success under Joe Brady with the Carolina Panthers. It’s a matter of time before we see this new duo light up the league and keep Buffalo in the running for the Super Bowl.
