It’s as if there wasn’t evidence stemming from so many instances in his career that if Josh Allen is down on the scoreboard and there is still time remaining, the Buffalo Bills have a chance. Barstool Sports president, and noted New England Patriots fan, Dave Portnoy, at worst forgot, or at best didn’t get the memo.
Portnoy went on social media after the Patriots exploded into a 21-0 lead over Buffalo, posting a video raving about the revitalized Patriots franchise that seemed to have the AFC East crown within reach for the first time since Tom Brady was in town.
“We are destroying this team!” Portnoy shouted at the camera. “I don’t want to get too cocky. I don’t want to get too loud. But no one knows more about championship football than this guy, more than these fans.”
“Buffalo, I feel bad,” Portnoy said. “I feel bad for the people of Buffalo. You’ve waited, you’ve been on the doorstep. Josh Allen, great guy. It’s over! Your little whatever that was, it’s over! The champs are here!”

Well, much like John Cena did in his final match, the Patriots tapped out right when Portnoy hoped they wouldn’t. Buffalo won 35-31, and Portnoy had to walk back his 48-second premature celebration with a 2:30-minute video explaining why the Patriots lost.
“If I could take back that first celebratory victory video when it was 21-0, and I was ranting, raving about how the division is ours and the Bills are done, I would take it back,” Portnoy said. “I would take it back.”

Josh Allen leads furious comeback for Buffalo Bills that leaves Dave Portnoy eating crow
To be fair to Portnoy, some Bills fans lost hope after the first half, too. The Bills’ defense allowed 177 yards rushing in the first half and seemed to have few, if any, answers for Drake Maye either. Still, that defense forced a three-and-out to open the second half while Allen and the offense bookended that effort with touchdown drives on each side.
Portnoy isn’t the first to loudly crown a team on social media too early, and he certainly won’t be the last. Still, his team, the Patriots, is still atop the AFC East and, provided they don’t slip up against the Ravens, Dolphins, and Jets, should stay there.

But just like he did on Sunday and the past two weeks, Allen has the Bills ready to mount a comeback on the 2025 season. Though, as Allen said himself after the game, the team still has work to do to keep from falling into these early holes in the first place.
