In their last two games, the Buffalo Bills have made comeback wins against the Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots in dramatic fashion. The biggest difference in the comebacks is that Buffalo was down by 21 points against New England going into halftime and it looked like they had no shot at making a comeback. That mindset was completely wrong.
Buffalo outscored New England 28-7 in the second half and left the Patriots fans in Gillette Stadium in a state of shock as they witnessed the Patriots collapse in the second half. The Bills turned it around and played near perfect football in crucial moments to come out with this win.
Despite the hard fought win, the Bills’ biggest takeaway from this game is very obvious and it’s been a problem all season long.
Bills' run-defense continues to be huge issue despite big Week 15 win
This run-defense for the Bills has been absolutely horrible for the majority of the season. There have only been four games where they didn’t give up 100+ yards. There have been three games where they have given up 200+ yards on the ground. Yesterday against New England, Buffalo gave up 246 rushing yards including 148 yards and two touchdowns to rookie TreVeyon Henderson.
Both of Henderson’s touchdowns were 50+ yards and one of them happened as Drake Maye turned into a lead blocker down field to help Henderson get into the endzone.
This defense in Buffalo is a huge liability against the run and it showed once again in this game. Defensive coordinator Bobby Babich and Sean McDermott have to find a way to make adjustments quickly rather than letting the opposing offense have their way early on.
Part of the reason why the Bills have had to make comeback wins is because the defense for Buffalo isn’t doing them any favors. If they don’t do their job, that just puts more pressure on Josh Allen and the offense to carry the team to victory.
