When you think about the top quarterbacks that are currently in the NFL, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills should immediately come to mind as a Top 3 choice. You can even say that he should be No. 1 ahead of everyone else that includes Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow.
He went from being listed as a boom-or-bust propsect in 2018 to a consistent MVP contender this entire decade, and has helped the Bills become the powerhouse that they are today.
Whether Allen has had a true No. 1 receiver or not, he has put the Bills on his back to help them win games countless times. He has had multiple games of having 6+ total touchdowns (Week 14 vs. Rams in 2024 and Week 11 vs. Buccaneers in 2025) and he has also had a passing, rushing, and receiving touchdown in a single game as well (Week 13 vs. 49ers in 2024). Those just small samples of the greatness of Allen.
While he has a dynamic arm where he can throw the ball 70+ yards, part of Allen's game that makes him an overall dangerous quarterback is his ability to run and take hits to pick up the first down or the touchdown.

From 2020-2024, Allen became the first player in NFL history with 5 consecutive seasons with 40+ total touchdowns, and part of the reason why was him being able to rush for touchdowns. He has 79 career rushing touchdowns, which includes have 12+ in the last three consecutive seasons. With Joe Brady still his playcaller despite being the head coach, there's no reason why that production by Allen should change for the worse.
Bobby Kownack from NFL.com put together a projections for 11 major NFL stat categories heading into this season, one of them being QB rushing touchdowns and Kownack is predicting that Allen will lead the NFL in that category, with Eagles' quarterback Jalen Hurts behind him. If Allen were to finish at the top of this category, it would certainly boost his chances of winning his second career MVP award.
"The top two are obvious. Allen and [Jalen] Hurts have taken turns leading the league in quarterback rushing touchdowns for five years now. Allen is first in NFL history with 79, while Hurts sits third with 63. Allen gets the nod in 2026 for likely leading the more explosive offense, a group that gets to enjoy consistency under Joe Brady despite the head-coaching change." said Kownack.
Obviously we know that this wouldn’t be the defining factor for the MVP award, but it would for sure play a major role in it. In Allen’s 2024 MVP season, he threw for 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns, while rushing for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns. That was without a true No. 1 receiver.
Now that he has one in DJ Moore, it would not surprise anyone if he has a better year in 2026 than he did in his first MVP season. His ability to make plays no matter who is supporting cast is, is already impressive enough. The passing game should vastly improve this year, and if Allen can keep up his rushing production, he should be on his way to winning his second MVP award.
