The first move that put the Buffalo Bills on the free agency board this past offseason was the signing of wide receiver Joshua Palmer. The Bills brought Palmer to Western New York on a 3-year, $36 million deal after he spent the first four seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers.

It was a bit of a homecoming for Palmer as he was born in Toronto which is not far from Buffalo at all. After catching passes from Justin Herbert since 2021, Palmer will now be connecting with the MVP, Josh Allen in an “everybody eats” offense.

Palmer hasn’t had a breakout-like season yet, but he’s still young and he is joining a much better pass-first offense. He can create separation which is something that the Bills struggled to do last season. The best part is that Palmer doesn’t need to be the go-to guy in the offense which takes pressure off of him.

B/R is a big believer in Joshua Palmer for 2025

Alex Ballentine from Bleacher Report recently listed Palmer as Buffalo’s top summer breakout candidate heading into the 2025 season. Here’s a bit of what Ballentine said about Palmer:

"He already has four years of NFL experience, including a 769-yard season in 2022. But he's still just 25 years old, and playing in a more established offensive ecosystem in Buffalo with Josh Allen could see him reach a different level."

Palmer was not brought to Buffalo to be this next big receiver who take the Bills over the top. He was brought to the Bills to create separation and help open up the field for Allen. Fans should not be expecting Palmer to be a 1,000-yard receiver, but there are expectations of him to thrive in this new offense and be able to make the catches that are thrown his way.

After Brandon Beane went on his major rant after the NFL Draft about how he is sick and tired of the Bills facing criticism about the wide receivers that the Bills have on the roster, that kind of sets up Palmer to prove Beane right. If he thrives, he will be able to show that Buffalo made the right investment by not going after more receivers than they did this offseason. However, if he struggles, well then Beane could be answering some tough questions from the media.
