Josh Allen could have a great chance to repeat as MVP in the 2025 NFL eason, but what are the biggest roadblocks preventing this? Allen has done just about everything there is to do in the NFL besides start and win a Super Bowl.

And a Super Bowl title could be the only thing standing in the way of a future bid to the Hall of Fame. Josh Allen crossed off a big individual accomplishment in 2024 by winning the MVP. He did so with 28 touchdown passes and 12 rushing touchdowns.

Let's dive into the three biggest roadblocks between Josh Allen and his second-straight MVP award in the 2025 NFL Season.

What roadblocks are in the way of Josh Allen repeating as league MVP in 2025?

Lamar Jackson

Perhaps the most obvious roadblock, Lamar Jackson should have won the MVP in 2024 depending on who you ask. Jackson is a two-time MVP and is the best dual-threat QB of all-time. There isn't any reason to believe why the QB can't again be top in the NFL, as he played the best football of his career in the 2024 NFL Season. The Lamar Jackson-Josh Allen rivalry is well-documented, and the MVP award may again come down to these two stud passers.

Khalil Shakir's injury

Khalil Shakir has an ankle sprain, and those injuries are just flat-out tricky and a bit scary sometimes. Shakir turned into an elite target for Josh Allen during his MVP season and earned himself an extension this offseason. Simply put, Shakir is a foundational piece of this offense, and if this ankle injury continues to follow him here and there throughout 2025, Allen's chances at repeating take a massive hit. Shakir caught 76% of his targets in 2024.

James Cook's uncertain contract status

James Cook is one of the latest NFL players in the middle of a contract dispute. Only time will tell if the Buffalo Bills can agree on a deal with Cook, but he's another player who is a foundational piece of this offense. In the 2024 NFL Season, James Cook rushed for 1,009 yards, 16 rushing scores, and also added 258 receiving yards. His 16 rushing scores were the most in the NFL, as he had just four rushing touchdowns combined in his first two seasons.

Their stud running back's uncertain contract situation could impact Josh Allen's chances at repeating as MVP in the 2025 season.
