There was never a time where it looked like this game was going to get out of hand. In a once again rematch between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, the biggest lead of the game didn’t happen until the 4th quarter when Buffalo went up by nine. These games between Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes never disappoint and this game was no different.
On the second play of the game, Mahomes threw a bad interception right into the arms of safety Taylor Rapp which eventually turned into a James Cook rushing touchdown to give Buffalo an early 6-0 lead (with Tyler Bass missing the PAT). Throughout the game, Buffalo’s defense did a fantastic job on containment, but it took them a little bit to adjust to stopping rooie wideout Xavier Worthy.
In the first half, Worthy was torching the Bills secondary and got himself into the endzone as well. At one point, it looked like he was going to be the x-factor but then he was slowed down in the second half.
Buffalo’s offense was running through James Cook, he recorded two first half touchdowns and helped the Bills take a 16-14 halftime lead. Then after both the Chiefs and Bills were punting it back and forth, Allen connected with wideout Curtis Samuel for his first touchdown as a Bills to put the Bills up 23-14. Mahomes and the Kansas City offense had to respond and they did by driving down against Buffalo where Mahomes connected with Noah Gray for his second touchdown of the night to cut into the lead.
On Buffalo’s next possession, there were a lot of gutsy calls by Joe Brady, includning on forth down situations. However, on a 4th down play late in the fourth quarter, Allen took the ball himself and ran it into the endzone from 26 yards out right before the two-minute warning to take a 30-21 lead.
Mahomes would take the ball back and Buffalo’s defense stood their ground and picked off Mahomes for a second time to officially give the Chiefs their first loss of the season.
