Last season featured one of the closest MVP races between two of the best quarterbacks in the league, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. In the end, Allen won the MVP award because at the end of the day, he was more valuable to Buffalo than Jackson was to Baltimore.
I’m not saying that Jackson wasn’t deserving of the award because he had a great season. However, the MVP goes to the most valuable player and that was Allen by a mile. This matchup is going to be electric and it's the first time since the Bills eliminated the Ravens from the playoffs that they will see each other on the field.
When you think of the top quarterbacks, you have to put them two in the conversation as high as No. 1 and no lower than No. 4. They are dual-threat players who can make a defense pay with the pass, and their rushing ability. Don’t be surprised when you see these two go back-and-forth in a game that could easily come down to the whoever has the ball last.
Week 1 prediction has the MVP debate starting up between Allen and Jackson
NFL.com analyst and former NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew predicted a very bold projection of Allen and Jackson “combining for double-digit TDs.” Here’s what Jones-Drew said:
"Over the last two seasons, Allen (85) and Jackson (74) rank first and second in offensive touchdowns. However, in their five career head-to-head matchups (including playoffs), this quarterback duo has only totaled 15 scores -- a credit to the defenses. On Sunday night, the top two players in last year's MVP voting will put on a show and account for 10 touchdowns in a high-scoring affair."Maurice Jones-Drew, NFL.com
First off, this would be so electric if you’re a fan of offense and an absolute nightmare for defensive-minded fans. In what would be a game that would light up the scoreboard, the debates would begin about the MVP race from last season and then going into this season as well.
This is a great first test for both of these quarterbacks and it would be quite the statement to send to the rest of the NFL. Allen and Jackson will have the opportunity to not only dominate, but also help their team reach a 1-0 start. We cannot wait for this game to happen tomorrow night.
