The Buffalo Bills shocked the NFL world by firing Sean McDermott after 9 seasons with the organization. After losing yet another heartbreaker in the playoffs, this time to the Denver Broncos, the Bills have decided to go in a different direction without McDermott and will start their search for a new head coach.

Some people wanted this to happen, and some didn't. Well, there is one Bills player that has taken to Instagram about his feelings about the firing of McDermott. Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips made a NSFW post about the Bills firing McDermott, per Alaina Getzenberg:

Jordan Phillips is extremely unhappy about Sean McDermott firing

McDermott’s firing from the Bills has caused a ton of reactions just because of how successful the Bills have been under McDermott. He’s only missed the playoffs one season and he delivered five consecutive AFC East titles from 2020-2024.

However, every single season under McDermott in which the Bills made the playoffs, the defense has let the team down. That is McDermott’s side of the ball. In all of Buffalo's playoff losses outside of 2020 against the Texans, the Bills have given up 27+ points despite the offense putting points up on the board.

This firing is a big shock to Western New York, and it’s going to be awhile before that stinging feeling goes away. At the same time, the Bills had a path to the Super Bowl where they didn’t have to worry about running into Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow, and they still couldn’t get the job done. In addition, they gave up 33 points so it’s yet another game where the defense failed when it mattered.

As the Bills begin their search for a head coach, they will have to be very intentional with this hiring. Whoever comes into this spotlight is getting the best quarterback in the game with a team who is a consistent playoff team. There will be big shoes to fill. At the end of the day though, it was time for a change. Now we will wait to see if it was the right one.
