The good news for the Buffalo Bills is that they are heading to the playoffs, meaning that they will be playing in atleast one more game after Week 18. The bad news is that whether their season ends in the first round or raising the Lombardi trophy in Santa Clara, the Bills will have to make some tough roster decisions at various positions.

Fans will be paying close attention to see what Brandon Beane and the front office will do at wide receiver, obviously. At the same time though, it will be extremely interesting to see how the edge rusher position gets addressed.

Buffalo’s biggest free agency splash back in March was signing Joey Bosa to a one-year deal after he had spent nearly a decade with the Chargers. Given his injury history in LA, the Bills were smart to give him a one-year prove it deal and Bosa has exceeded expectations.

With missing only one game this season, Bosa has recorded five sacks, 27 total tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 2 pass deflections, and 5 forced fumbles which tied a franchise record. He is showing the Bills and the NFL that he can still be one of the top pass rushers in the game, setting himself up for a nice payday either before or during free agency.

Joey Bosa keeps proving that Bills need to extend him after 2025

Ryan Smith from Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked the top pass rushers of the NFL heading into Week 17, and ranked in the top ten at No. 8 is Bosa (subscription required). Bosa currently has a pass-rush grade of 88.9, winning almost 16% of his pass-rushes and has provided 45 pressures along with 2 pass deflections.

Bosa has been Buffalo’s best pass rusher by a mile, showing the team that they need him beyond just this season. Outside of last week against the Cleveland Browns, Greg Rousseau has not been a top pass rusher, just more of a run-stuffer.

Unless Buffalo is hoping that Landon Jackson will come out of nowhere to become an elite pass rusher or bring back A.J. Epenesa on another contract, the Bills must prioritize extending Bosa after this season.
