Mandatory minicamp has kicked off for the Buffalo Bills and it’s the first time in nearly a decade that it doesn’t feature Sean McDermott as the head coach. Joe Brady is now the head coach and he will look to capitalize on the opportunity and do what McDermott couldn’t accomplish as a head coach.

With Brady being a first-time head coach, he has had the opportunity to go through hiring a new coaching staff, helping with free agency, and then also working alongside Brandon Beane in the draft room during the NFL Draft. Now, he has his roster and his coaching staff will need to start evaluating the roster with training camp coming up next month.

With mandatory minicamp underway for the Bills, Brady spoke with the media earlier today and talked about an injury that linebacker Dorian Williams is currently dealing with.

Joe Brady informs Bills fans of Dorian Williams injury that should be concerning

According to Brady, per Sal Capaccio, Williams is dealing with an injury, but Brady “thinks he can be ready for training camp, but they will see.” Carpaccio reported that Brady “did not specifically say if it was the same injury from the playoff game.”

Now, this may not seem like a big deal. Injuries are very common, and injuries can last quite awhile as well depending on the severity of it. The main reason why it’s a big deal is because the inside linebacker room for the Bills isn’t exactly the strongest unit on the team. In fact, I would argue that it’s the weakest on the roster completely.

The only notable addition that the Bills made to their inside linebacker room was the drafting of Kaleb Elarms-Orr in the 4th round of the NFL Draft. While Elarms-Orr can become something special sooner than later, the depth at that position is not the greatest. In addition, Buffalo is going under a new defensive scheme for the first time in a long time. If Williams isn’t out there taking reps, he could easily fall behind.

Williams is the presumed starter along with Terrel Bernard in the middle of the defense, but that doesn’t mean anything if he isn’t on the field. There is a world where Elarms-Orr could very well become an immediate starter for this defense. While that would be great for the future, is it good for the present moment?

There is no need to panic with this update from Brady…for now. However, if nothing improves as time goes on, there is going to be a good amount of concern amongst Bills fans heading into the season.
