Out of the 10 head coaches that were hired during the 2026 offseason, Joe Brady has had the most success record-wise sitting at 6-1 going into Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings. When he was promoted from offensive coordinator to head coach, there were a ton of mixed emotions because it felt like the Bills weren't truly going in a different direction since Brady had worked under Sean McDermott.
However, the Bills chose Brady for the job and it's worked out very well for them so far. Yes, I know that the defense is a massive liability, especially when it comes to defending the pass. However, Brady's specialty is on offense and the Bills (once again) have one of the most dangerous offenses in the league.
Now, Brady will be looking to continue that momentum going against arguably the league's best defense in the Minnesota Vikings.
Joe Brady has major challenge with Vikings' defense in Week 9
Brady has done a great job as the playcaller for the offense, but now he faces a massive challenge going up against Vikings' DC Brian Flores, who is not afraid to constantly bring the pressure upfront. While Minnesota does a great job at blitzing, it could very well backfire on them since Josh Allen is one of the best quarterbacks against the blitz.
It won't be an easy game for the Bills at all, but I'm highly confident that they will get the win in primetime. If they do beat the Vikings on their home turf, Brady will join a limited first-year head coach club that only 4 other rookies coaches have achieved.
A Week 9 win will put Joe Brady in great coaching company
According to the Buffalo Bills' PR team, if the Bills beat the Vikings, Brady will become the 5th head coach this century to win each of his first four career road games. The only other coaches that have accomplished that are Sean McVay with the Los Angeles Rams (2017), Jim Harbaugh with the San Francisco 49ers (2011), Jim Caldwell with the Indianapolis Colts (2009), and Herm Edwards with the New York Jets (2001).
Brady has road wins over the Houston Texans, Los Angeles Rams, and Las Vegas Raiders. However, this test against the Vikings will be his toughest because of the way that Brian Flores has done great job at blitzing at the right place at the right time.
Joe Brady and Kevin O'Connell might be the head coaches for both of these teams, but it will be Brady taking on Flores in a matchup that the whole NFL world can't wait to watch.
