Last week, the Buffalo Bills introduced Joe Brady as their new head coach moving forward. When the Bills decided to fire Sean McDermott after nine seasons, it caused countless reactions. However, what’s done is done. Now the Bills are running the show with Brady leading the way.
Up to this point, Brady has done a great job with putting together a solid staff which includes the hiring of Jim Leonhard as the defensive coordinator. He also brought in a familiar face for him in Pete Carmichael as the offensive coordinator.
Brady has been with the Bills since 2022, and he took over as the offensive coordinator in the middle of the 2023 season. The offense has not been the main issue at all, despite the lack of playmakers. Brady has worked his magic.
Even though it makes complete sense to promote Brady and he has done a great job at building up the staff, there are still people who are going to think that this was the wrong pick for the Bills.
Joe Brady hiring grade ranks among the worst (and it's wrong)
Mark Powell and Wynston Wilcox from FanSided graded each head coach hiring now that the Cardinals have Matt LaFleur and the Raiders are expected to hire Klint Kubiak as their head coach after the Super Bowl.
Powell gave the Bills hiring of Joe Brady a grade of “D”, which is tied for last with Mike McCarthy who was hired by the Steelers.
"Brady has the right last name, and has worked with Allen for years. Let's hope it all goes well, but it smells...nasty. For a team so close to the Super Bowl, it's surprising Buffalo had to promote from within." said Powell.
The Bills were smart to promote within because of the success that Brady has had with the offense, and the continuity that it keeps within the building. Buffalo gets the best of both worlds with the continuity piece, but Brady also is a new voice at the table with a new vision.
Buffalo has been going through the same process for many years now. It was time for a change after yet another playoff loss that was a heartbreaker. At the end of the day, we won’t know how this will work out until the season. Until then, the hiring of Brady was the best for the Bills.
