Jim Leonhard may have just made his stance on Bills' CB2 spot crystal clear

Couldn't be anymore clear.

The pass-defense for the Buffalo Bills is in big trouble through six games. Despite the Bills being at 5-1 going into their bye week, the defense has not been great at all throughout their six games. The only game where the defense played at a high level was in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Through six games, the pass-defense is allowing 285 yards per game, which includes allowing 4 out of 6 opposing quarterbacks to throw for 300+ yards. Defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard has been having a tough time with this new-look defense, but it seems like he has clarity about one position that was talked about a lot going into the season.

Bills' CB2 spot seems to have more of a clear vision

Leonhard spoke with the media on Monday, and he talked about rookie Davison Igbinosun (who right now is the Bills' best rookie) and how he has "earned a high number of snaps", per Sal Capaccio. Leonhard also mentioned "I know what I'm getting" speaking to Igbinosun's game.

When the Bills traded up in the NFL Draft for Igbinosun, it caused a ton of confusion and even a bit of frustration. While the Bills needed to add depth in the secondary, spending a second-round pick on a corner is not meant for depth...it's meant to get some serious playing time.

The Bills had drafted Maxwell Hairston in the 2025 NFL Draft in the first round, and with his slow start to his rookie season and the new defensive scheme, the drafting of Igbinosun threw a wrench into the development of Hairston.

Hairston was the starting CB2 opposite of Christian Benford to start out the season, but Igbinosun has impressed early on and with Hairston having a terrible game against the Patriots back in Week 4, Igbinosun got his chance to shine and he's done extremely well.

Davison Igbinosun could very well be CB2 moving forward after bye week

Igbinosun has 7 pass deflections and 16 total tackles on the season. His 7 pass deflections currently ranks for tied for sixth in the league which is very impressive for the rookie. He is great when it comes to true man-to-man coverage. While he still has some issues when it comes to holding (he's been called a few times for it this season), fans knew about that when he was coming out of Ohio State.

The fact of the matter is that he is a physical corner who is great in coverage. He is shining early on in his rookie season and with these comments from Leonhard, it sure does sound like it will be Igbinosun and Benford as the starters on the outside.
