The first move of the free agency period for the Buffalo Bills that didn’t involve an in-house contract extension was agreeing to terms with wide receiver Joshua Palmer. The Bills signed Palmer to a three-year, $36 million deal ($18 million guaranteed). Palmer joins the Bills after spending the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers.
It’s a little bit of a homecoming for Palmer, who is originally from Toronto, which is within driving distance from Buffalo. Palmer is back in familiarity and he gets to catch passes from the MVP of the league, Josh Allen. With the Bills losing Mack Hollins to the New England Patriots and Amari Cooper still remaining unsigned, the Bills needed to bring in another weapon to pair with Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman.
Palmer can separate from defenders, which is something that the Bills receiving core failed to do a lot last season. However, they won’t need Palmer to be a number-one target. Buffalo’s offense operates under an “everybody eats” mentality under Joe Brady. All that Palmer needs to do is his part and the passing game should have no dramatic chance in 2025.
Even though Palmer only spent one season in LA under Jim Harbaugh, he clearly left a great impression on him and the Chargers. Harbaugh spoke to the media and Palmer and the impact that he left on him as he departs from LA. According to Bills beat reporter Sal Capaccio, Harbaugh stated Palmer is “highly productive” and “has the ability to make the play” as well as calling him “an all-around player, and a great guy, great teammate” per Capaccio.

Palmer is entering the prime of his career and he gets to join a win-now Bills team that has the MVP under center. Going from Justin Herbert to Josh Allen is a great set up for Palmer. Both quarterbacks can chuck it down the field and also make plays on the ground. Not to mention, the upgrade with offensive coordinator Joe Brady and his offense should heavily benefit Palmer’s development with the Bills.
These comments from Harbaugh show exactly why the Bills made Palmer their first out-of-house free agent signing. He is a great teammate and knows how to produce on the field. It’s the best of both worlds for the Bills.
