4 reasons why Bills fans should love the Josh Palmer signing

The signing of Josh Palmer is very underrated.

After getting off to a slower start in the first day of the legal tampering period, the Buffalo Bills made their first move by agreeing to terms with Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Josh Palmer on a three-year deal worth $36 million (with $18 million guaranteed). Ian Rapoport was the first on the breaking news. That’s not a bad signing at all for a team that needs more weapons for their MVP quarterback.

Palmer has spent the last four years with the Chargers and he’s been solid, but hasn’t been a number-one option. However, he didn’t need to be especially with the Chargers moving to a run-first offense last season under Jim Harbaugh.

With Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins remaining unsigned, the Bills needed to get some wide receiver help to pair with Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, and Khalil Shakir. Don’t be surprised if the Bills go out and get another wideout in free agency or wait until the draft.

4 reasons why Bills fans should love the signing of Josh Palmer

Gets to unleash potential in a pass-first offense

The Chargers shifted to a run-first offense under Jim Harbaugh so Palmer didn’t exactly get the chance to shine in the offense. Even in a run-first offense, Palmer posted 584 receiving yards which is the second career-high and he wasn’t the number one option. Now he gets to join forces with Josh Allen to unleash his potential that he has.

Another bigger weapon for Josh Allen

The Bills already have a bigger weapon in Keon Coleman who the Bills drafted to win contested catches. Now they have a second option in Palmer, who is 6 '1, 210lbs who can line up outside of the number and go one-on-one with a defender.

The Bills have their speedsters in Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel. Adding another bigger weapon in Palmer always helps no matter what team you are.

Entering his prime

Palmer only has four years under his belt and he’s 25 years old, set to 26 in the middle of the season. He is now entering the prime of his career and who better to throw him the ball than Josh Allen.

Not to mention, by the time his contract is up, he has the chance to earn a second contract and potentially cash in with the Bills should he be impressive over the next two seasons.

Perfect fit for “everybody eats” offense

Offensive coordinator Joe Brady has the perfect mentality for this offense, with an “everybody eats” mantra. He is all about getting everyone involved rather than making it one-dimensional. Palmer is the perfect wideout to add to the mix and help spread the ball around for Allen.

Palmer’s involvement in LA was limited but now he can truly shine in Buffalo. Having the MVP throwing you the ball in an offense where there is no true go-to guy, Palmer should have a lot more success with Allen than he did with Justin Herbert.
