Earlier today, the Buffalo Bills saw the Miami Dolphins make a blockbuster trade that sent wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos. The Broncos got Waddle and a 2026 4th-round pick, while the Dolphins got a 1st-round pick (No. 30) and a 3rd and 4th-round pick that adds to their rebuild under their new regime with Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley.
The Bills should be thankful for two things from this trade. First, they won’t have to play against Jaylen Waddle twice a year. While he is not a superstar wideout, he is a solid playmaker on the outside who can do some damage. There is a reason why the Bills tried to trade for him at the deadline last season.
Secondly, while the Broncos got their new No. 1 wideout for Bo Nix, Denver paid up a lot to acquire him. Waddle has primarily only been a No. 2 option because the Dolphins had Tyreek Hill on offense. Now the Broncos are hoping that the price they paid will work out even though Waddle has never been the go-to option.
When the Buffalo Bills traded for D.J. Moore and it was revealed that they sent a 2nd-round pick to Chicago, the Bills took a ton of heat for it right away. However, Bills fans should be glad that they were able to gain Moore for just a second rounder while the Broncos gave up a little bit of a haul for Waddle.
Jaylen Waddle trade shows Bills were smart to trade for D.J. Moore at right price
With acquiring Waddle, the Broncos are giving up the chance to draft someone in the first round who wouldn’t be expensive at all, and would have a fifth-year team option. They also may see a lot of talent on Day 2 go off the board in the third round that they could have had.Â
As for Buffalo, they still have their first rounder and they could easily trade out to gain a second round pick plus extra draft capital. Not to mention, getting Moore to pair with Joe Brady once again is a perfect match. When Moore and Brady were together in Carolina, Moore had back-to-back 1,100+ yard seasons.Â
The Bills have had issues getting production from their receivers the last two seasons, and now they have someone who is an immediate upgrade and already has the familiarity with Brady’s offense.
Don’t get me wrong, Denver is a better team today than they were yesterday. But the price for Waddle seems way more expensive than what the Bills gave up for Moore.
