Bills’ running back James Cook has been spectacular for Buffalo this season. A lot of people talk about how Josh Allen is the most important player on the Bills (which is absolutely true), but without Cook, the Bills wouldn’t be as dynamic as they can be at times.
Cook has already passed his career-high in rushing yards this season and he’s got 8 touchdowns on the ground. He’s averaging between four and five yards per carry and right now, he’s making his new contract extension look like a bargain for the Bills. However, for as great as Cook has been, he also has his moments where he messes up just like any other player.
Not only did Cook fail to reach the endzone against the Bengals, he fumbled twice on the same drive that could have been a huge factor in Buffalo potentially losing the game. Driving towards a touchdown, Cook fumbled at the one yard line, which could have easily been called for a touchback because he fumbled it and it looked like it went out of the endzone.
After reviewing the play, Cook was ruled to have fumbled it at the one but with Buffalo being called for holding, the run he made didn’t matter. Then a few plays later on that drive, Cook took the handoff and as he was about to get into the endzone, the Bengals punched the ball out of Cook’s hands and recovered it in the endzone for a touchback.
Turnovers were going in Cincinnati's favor at that point, but the Bills managed to turn it around in the 4th quarter to make the comeback win. While Cook didn't have a great game, he still managed to get into the Bills' history books.
James Cook joins big names in Bills' history books in Week 14
According to the Buffalo Bills PR team, Cook recorded his 10th game with 100+ scrimmage yards in which he became the fifth Bills player to do so in a season, joining Thurman Thomas, O.J. Simpson, C.J. Spiller, and LeSean McCoy.
Cook finished his Week 14 production with 80 yards on the ground and 31 yards through the air. He’s a versatile playmaker that can help it anyway for Buffalo. However, he does have to fix the fumbling problem, as he has had four fumbles in Buffalo’s last two games.
