After a thrilling Week 1 schedule in the NFL, we now turn the page to Week 2 and the Buffalo Bills will be in action at 1PM EST on the road against the New York Jets this Sunday. The Jets are looking to bounce back from a heart breaking loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and they looked great against the Steelers’ defense.
Buffalo was Josh Allen-dependent in the 4th quarter and he came through, putting one of the best performances we have ever seen from a quarterback in the 4th quarter alone. However, that can’t always be the case moving forward to win games. Other plays have to step up and keep the pressure off of Allen.
Heading into MetLife this Sunday, the Bills have one key to victory that they need to establish to get to 2-0.
Bills have to master the rushing attack to win vs. Jets in Week 2
While the Bills had some success on the ground in Week 1, it wasn’t enough to sustain drives and keep the pressure off of Allen. James Cook led the Bills with 44 yards and a score, averaging just 3.4 yards per carry. Overall, Buffalo had just over 100 yards on the ground.
With how impressive the Jets’ offense looked against Pittsburgh, the Bills cannot afford to give the Jets opportunities to control the clock and play their game. Establishing the run will help keep Justin Fields and New York’s offense off the field and force them to play from behind.
Buffalo has the type of offense where if they can run the ball effectively, then there is almost no chance at them being stopped. We all know how great Josh Allen is and what he can do in the passing attack. However, if the Bills can also get the run game going with their committee, this offense can easily light up the scoreboard and force their opponent to play from behind.
Joe Brady may want to strongly consider finding a way to get the rushing attack going early and for all four quarters. There is nothing wrong with the Bills being a running team this week, especially on the road in a division game.
