Hall of Famer says the quiet part out loud about Josh Allen going into playoffs

Josh Allen has become one of the must-see quarterbacks in NFL history. However, for as great as he is in the regular season, he plays even better in the postseason. In 13 playoff games, Allen has delivered 3,359 passing yards and he has 32 total touchdowns to just 4 interceptions.

You could make the case that there has only been two games in his playoff career where he didn’t play at his best (2023 vs. Bengals and 2025 vs. Ravens, both were in the divisional round).

Without him, the Buffalo Bills wouldn’t be one of the most feared teams in the postseason. Even though they are entering this year’s postseason as a wild card team and not AFC East champs, they are still one of the most experienced playoff teams in the AFC and they do have the best quarterback under center, no matter what anyone says.

This season has not been Buffalo’s best, that’s for sure. But having a quarterback like Allen going into the playoffs gives Buffalo a massive advantage, and Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher thinks so as well.

Brian Urlacher says what Josh Allen doubters don't want to hear

Urlacher recently was on Fitz & Whit with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Andrew Whitworth, and Urlacher discussed how Allen “could beat anyone, any day” and that if “their [Buffalo] defense shows up at all they’re gonna have a good chance to win a bunch of games.”

Bills fans will tell you that Allen has never been the problem for Buffalo in the playoffs. It’s always come down to the defense falling apart in crucial moments. Whether it’s because they were dealing with numerous injuries or playing bad situational football, Buffalo’s defense has been the team’s liability.

As of right now, the playoff quarterbacks in the AFC are Allen, Bo Nix, Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, C.J. Stroud, and Justin Herbert. Sunday night will tell us whether Aaron Rodgers or Lamar Jackson will also be in the playoffs. Outside of Rodgers, Allen is going up against a bunch of quarterbacks that have had little to no success in the playoffs.

Don’t get me wrong, there are times where Allen is not at his best. Just like this past week against the Philadelphia Eagles, Allen couldn’t get anything going. However, part of the reason why is because of a foot injury he has been dealing with.

At the end of the day, Buffalo’s defense has to come through in the playoffs. The more that they can keep the pressure on, the more that Allen and the offense can shine and make a serious run in the playoffs.
