Josh Allen started slow, with Buffalo down 34-19 going into the fourth quarter. It did not matter. Josh Allen proved exactly why he is the reigning NFL MVP and led the Bills to a dramatic comeback victory.
When grading his performance Sunday night, there is only one letter than comes to mind: A+.
Josh Allen showed league why he is the MVP of the league
Allen threw for 394 yards, completing 33 of 46 passes for a 71.7% completion percentage. He threw a pair of touchdowns, and ran for a pair of scores as well. He rushed for 30 yards on 14 attempts, helping to make up for the Bills' lack of a run-game. Long story short, Allen did it all.
However, the reason he receives an A+ goes beyond any numbers Allen produced in the statsheet. Allen proved Sunday Night that he is a playmaker. He made every play the Bills needed him to make late in the game.
In the fourth quarter, trailing 40-25, Allen led his team down the field to score a touchdown bringing the score within eight points. When Buffalo was gifted the ball back via a Derrick Henry fumble, Allen did not let the moment go to waste. In under a minute of game-play, he had marched the Bills back into the endzone, and suddenly, the game was within two points.
Buffalo's defense gave Allen the ball back with just under a minute and a half to go, and Allen delivered. False-start penalty to start the drive? Didn't matter. Allen converted a crucial third down to Keon Coleman brining the Bills into field goal range, then set Matt Prater up for a chip shot with another big play on the next set of downs.
It was masterful. It was reminiscent of comebacks from Super Bowl champions and future Hall of Famer's such as Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Russell Wilson and Matthew Stafford. Allen continues to prove he belongs in that group as well.
It's only one week, but Allen is putting the NFL on high alert again, and looks like he's ready to defend his MVP trophy.
