Grading Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen's rollercoaster 2025 season

Although the talented quarterback had some outstanding games, some of them did not make it to the top of the ride.

Now that the Buffalo Bills brass are taking their time in searching for a new head coach, they will be including quarterback Josh Allen in their search.

Even with an up-and-down 2025 season at times, getting his input will definitely help out at the offensive side of the ball. Getting some fresh insight from a new head coach should give the current and, once again, this year's nominee for MVP a new perspective.

While he threw for 3,668 yards on 319 passes with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, it shows that he can do even better if the front office surrounds him with better receivers.

Defining moments that marked Josh Allens's 2025 rollercoaster season

1. Sept. 7, 2025 - Bills come back late with TD pass from Allen against Ravens, 41-40

With the Bills trailing by 15 late in the fourth quarter, against the Baltimore Ravens, it looked as if the Bills were going to start their final season at the old Higmark Stadium on the wrong foot. However, when the Bills have number 17 as their quarterback, the game's never over.

Allen threw a touchdown late to wide receiver Keon Coleman to make it 40-32 with 3:56 left in the fourth quarter. On their next possession, Allen ran it in for the one-yard score, but the two-point try failed, and the deficit was cut to 40-38.

Those two plays Allen made eventually led to Matt Prater's game-winning field goal with 0:02 left, and the team went from potentially starting 0-1 to starting 1-0. Allen finished the game with 394 passing yards and 2 touchdowns.

2. Oct. 5, 2025 - Allen throws costly interception in 3rd quarter against Patriots

With the Bills trailing 13-10 late in the third quarter and driving to the New England Patriots' nine-yard line, the Bills received a ten-yard offensive pass interference call, leading to an Allen interception in which the Bills didn't score any points off of it.

As a result, it was a turning point for an exciting AFC Divisional matchup, but it ended in a disappointing 23-20 loss on a game-winning field goal by Andy Borregales with 0:15 left in the fourth quarter.

3. Oct. 26, 2025 - Allen roars Bills to victory over Panthers, 40-9

With the Bills sitting at 4-2 and needing a get-right game after their bye week, it was once again the star QB who helped demolish a Carolina Panthers team that had been undefeated at home. Allen was responsible for three touchdowns, including a 54-yard strike to Khailil Shakir in the third quarter, to help the Bills cruise to a 40-9 win.

4. Nov. 9, 2025 - Allen throws nightmare pick leading to a disappointing loss at Miami

I was at this game with my mom, uncle, and cousins. And boy, did the Bills stink in this game. The Miami Dolphins jumped on the Bills from the start and never looked back.

It also didn't help that Allen threw a costly interception in the third quarter that was snagged by Dolphins' defensive back Ifeatu Melifanwu, but in the end, the whole Bills team was embarrassed by their division rival, 30-13.

5. Nov. 16, 2025 - Allen bounces back with three-touchdown performance in win vs. Tampa

After a brutal showing in Miami, Allen bounced back with an Allen-like performance against a talented Tampa Bay Buccaneers team. He had three touchdown passes: Tyrell Shavers (43 yards), Ty Johnson (52 yards), and James Cook (21 yards) to help the Bills pull away in a high-scoring game, 44-32.

6. Nov. 20, 2025 - Allen crushed in the wrong end of a Houston Texan sack party, 23-19

Yes, this game was actually a tight game, but it felt like the Houston Texans dominated the game. Allen was harassed all game long and was sacked eight times in this game. 2.5 of them were from none other than edge rusher Will Anderson, Jr., who is a nice guy, but plays tough and mean.

I even forgot the Bills still had a chance for another Allen-like game-winning drive, but sadly, he was picked off with 24 seconds left, giving the Bills a crushing 23-19 loss on Thursday Night Football.

7. Dec. 14, 2025 - Allen leads a wild second-half comeback at New England

This may have been one of the biggest games of the year for the Bills. The team trailed the New England Patriots 24-7 after halftime. Showing 10:03 left in the fourth quarter, Allen threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dawson Knox that led to a rally and a big come-from-behind win, 35-31.

You just never know when you have Allen in the game, and you really need to stay from start to finish.

8. Dec. 28, 2025 - Allen just misses game-winning 2-point conversion vs. Eagles

With the Bills trailing 13-6 to the Eagles late in the fourth quarter, Allen scored on a one-yard tush push to make it 13-12. Because the Bills had Michael Badgley miss an extra point earlier in the game, the Bills decided to put their faith in Allen and go for the win.

Sadly, Allen barely missed a wide-open two-point conversion that he would normally make about 90% of the time. Therefore, the Bills lost a heartbreaker,13-12, that helped New England clinch the division and, most recently, the Super Bowl.

Even though Allen and the Bills did not reach the Super Bowl this year, the team knows it has one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks. After reviewing this past season, my grade is (A-).
