Gabe Davis and 2 former Buffalo Bills who have floundered in 2024

These former Bills haven't exactly seen the best success after leaving Buffalo.

Players come and go all the time and the Buffalo Bills are no stranger to that setup. Whether they are there for one season or ten seasons, eventually all players end up leaving at some point. Even with the stability that Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane have created, roster moves are made each year. This could be through a trade or releasing someone for various reasons.

This past offseason was the busiest one the Bills have had, and not for good reasons. Their salary cap was horrendous and they had to let go of a lot of key veterans that played a vital role in the success the Bills have had since 2020. They had to let players walk and they had to release a lot of players just to break even in their salary cap.

Despite taking a “step back” this offseason, the Bills are still dominating and own a 9-2 record going into Week 13. While they are still enjoying their 2024 season, there are three former Bills who have found out that the success they had in Buffalo doesn’t always carry over to their next team, including wideout Gabe Davis.

WR Gabe Davis

Gabe Davis’ tenure in Buffalo was up-and-down. Sometimes he had explosive games, but then he would disappear for a month or so. His most notable game as a member of the Bills took place in the 2021-2022 divisional round against the Chiefs where he had 8 catches for 201 yards and 4 touchdowns in a thriller.

Davis had a couple of productive games after that, but nothing that was beyond impressive on a consistent basis to bring him back to the team. Davis decided to go back home down to Florida and sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Going from Josh Allen to Trevor Lawrence wasn’t exactly the best call on Davis’ end.

Before suffering a season-ending knee injury, Davis only put up 20 receptions for 239 yards and 2 touchdowns. Even though Davis was never a true week-to-week contributor for the Bills, he would atleast look like a decent number two receiver but with these numbers, Davis’ 2024 season is one to forget without question.

LB Tyrel Dodson

After an impressive 2023 season in Buffalo, Tyrel Dodson left the Bills and went out west to join the Seattle Seahawks. It was a good signing by the Seahawks but after nine games, the Seahawks surprisingly released Dodson and he would eventually be claimed by the Miami Dolphins.

It was a bit of a shock, but the Seahawks clearly saw something that made them decide to move on from Dodson. While Dodson’s 2024 season hasn’t been the worst, being released in the middle of the season isn’t the best look.

CB Tre’Davious White

The first ever draft pick for the Bills when Sean McDermott first came to Buffalo. Tre’Davious White not only became an immediate impactful player, but he was a major fan-favorite. The Bills had themselves a shutdown corner who could guard almost any receiver in the league.

Then in 2021, the downfall of White hit when he tore his ACL on Thanksgiving Day against the New Orleans Saints. Then last season in Week 4, White tore his achilles against the Miami Dolphins which would ultimately be his last game as a Bill.

After being released in March, White signed with the Los Angeles Rams but would heavily struggle early on. It got to the point where the Rams and White were potentially looking at a trade where they move on from each other. Before the trade deadline hit, the Rams traded Tre’Davious White to the Baltimore Ravens to help out a major issue the Ravens have on the backend of their defense.

He’s only played two games for the Ravens so it’s still early on to tell how he will perform down the stretch. At the same time, there’s a reason why he didn’t last the season with the Rams...
