The biggest takeaway from Week 1 that should have caught the attention of all NFL fans was how Josh Allen went down to Houston, and completely embarrassed the defense for the Texans. When the season approached, the Texans were called the undisputed best defensive team in the league…then Allen arrived.
The Bills went into this game not having won in Houston in 20 years, and Allen had just one win against the Texans. Their defense had made life miserable the last two seasons, especially with being sacked 8 times in last year's game.
Allen turned the tables this time around as he put on an MVP-like performance which included a clutch 34-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Palmer. Against a defense that has been a nightmare for him, Allen reversed it all with throwing for 334 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also added 2 scores on the ground.
He was only sacked twice as well, which is a significant improvement from last year, which played a big factor in Buffalo's offense being able to move the way they did.
Josh Allen's Week 1 performance kickstarts MVP race for 2026
There is still plenty of football to play, and anything can happen from now until the end of the season. But for now, Allen by far had the best performance of any player in the league considering the odds he was up against with the Texans’ defense.
Just two seasons ago, Allen won the NFL’s MVP award (and rightfully so). Now he is off to a hot start to where he could win another award, which is what former NFL Super Bowl champion and current analyst, Russell Wilson, is projecting.
Wilson recently talked about how he believes that Allen is “probably going to win MVP this year.”
"Will Josh Allen win his second MVP? I think that he has a definite chance to win it. I'm calling it now, he's probably going to win it this year. I think he knows it's time for the Buffalo Bills. New stadium, new all things, all things new, new coach. I think it's going to make a difference this year." said Wilson.

MVP award is great (but there is a bigger goal to reach)
With him already having an MVP award, Allen is looking for the next great thing and that is delivering a Super Bowl to Western New York. Allen and the Bills have been in two AFC championship games, but have yet to get past that round. The main focus throughout this season should be each game to get to the ultimate goal in February.
Allen has proven to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Not just in today's game, but in history. He is one of the best dual-threats that the NFL has ever seen, but it's too bad that he has yet to atleast compete in a Super Bowl, let alone win it.
So, we can be all hopeful that Allen wins the MVP award but the main mission is going to be focused on getting to the Super Bowl and delivering a championship to the Bills.
