Former NFL quarterback claims Josh Allen could have prevented disaster on final play

More heartbreak.

Despite the officiating not going in the Buffalo Bills' way in their eventual loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game, they still had a chance to win the game. The Bills got the ball back with three and a half minutes remaining on the clock and if you'd told a Bills fan that'd be the case going into the game, they'd have signed up for that in an instant.

Unfortunately, the Bills only ended up running six plays with their final play coming on 4th-and-5 on their side of the field. The Chiefs blitzed Allen forcing the Bills quarterback to get the ball out faster than he'd have liked. Even with that being the case, Dalton Kincaid had been wide open but was unable to come up with the catch.

While some will criticize Kincaid for not doing his job there, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III said that Allen should be more to blame. "Josh Allen actually could've adjusted the protection and got that blitz picked up," Griffin said on Up & Adams. "That, to me, was a bigger issue than Kincaid dropping the ball."

Bills guard O'Cyrus Torrence discussed this after the game and said that Steve Spagnuolo and the Chiefs defense had disguised this particular blitz well. Torrence mentioned that the Chiefs were sending pressure when they weren't showing it so that's why the adjustment wasn't made.

The bigger question for the Bills on that final drive was why didn't James Cook get a single carry? He had been gashing the Chiefs all evening long and then for whatever reason, Joe Brady went away from it in the offensive game plan. That's the more frustrating part of how this game ended.

When push came to shove, the Chiefs defense needed a stop and they were able to get it. That's what needs to happen in these big games and once again, Kansas City was able to get it done in the biggest moment and on the biggest stage while the Bills fell short.
