For the second time in the Josh Allen/Sean McDermott era, the Buffalo Bills are in the AFC Championship Game with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. The last time they were in this situation, the Bills went on to get blown out and watch the Kansas City Chiefs advance to their second straight Super Bowl.
Bills fans are hoping that this go-around goes better but it's hard to be overly optimistic when the Chiefs have ended Buffalo's season in three of their last four appearances. Even last year when the Bills were the host in the divisional round and it felt like a certainty they'd win, the Chiefs found a way to beat them in their house.
More Bills news:
Well, even with the game taking place at Arrowhead this year, former Panthers All-Pro Luke Kuechly believes that this is the Bills team that can take down the Chiefs. While appearing on Up & Adams, Kuechly gave his reasoning for why he thinks that's the case.
"I don't think there's one guy on the offensive side of the ball where [Josh Allen] feels like he needs to get the ball to and I think he can just go play."
Luke Kuechly believes this year will be different for the Bills
In the past, Josh Allen has had Stefon Diggs as his main weapon on offense and while it was nice having a playmaker like Diggs to throw to, Allen certainly felt pressured to get the ball to his top weapon. That isn't the case anymore now that Diggs isn't on the team.
Kuechly even mentioned in the interview how Amari Cooper, who the Bills added ahead of the trade deadline, hasn't touched the ball much since joining the team. Cooper has caught two passes for eight yards in Buffalo's two playoff games and hasn't been the big-time factor that he was expected to be but that's okay and the offense hasn't suffered.
Naysayers tried to say last offseason that the Bills losing Diggs and not having a true top target for Allen would sink this team but here they are looking better than ever. Kuechly's explanation of Allen getting to play fast and free makes a lot of sense and maybe it will serve as the difference as the Bills hope to do what they couldn't do in 2021: Go into Arrowhead in the AFC Championship Game and dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs.
