The Buffalo Bills are coming back home for a Week 9 division battle where they will host the Miami Dolphins, who got Tua Tagovailoa back last week from his concussion that he suffered against the Bills in Week 2. Buffalo is on a high note coming off a dominant 31-10 win over the Seattle Seahawks while the Miami Dolphins dropped to 2-5 after losing to the Arizona Cardinals.
The Bills have already separated themselves heavily within the AFC East and now they have the chance to make it even more wide by defeating Miami this coming Sunday. When you look at what happened with Buffalo this past offseason, it is safe to say that no one saw the Bills completing dominating the AFC East the first eight weeks of the season.
Part of the shift the Bills made was releasing longtime veterans who helped create a winning culture since Sean McDermott took over as the head coach. One of the players that helped create that culture was safety Jordan Poyer. Drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles and spending time with the Cleveland Browns, Poyer signed with Buffalo in 2017 to team up with Micah Hyde (who also signed with the Bills in 2017) and would create one of the best safety duos in the league.
They were the heart and soul of the defense for a long time and they brought a lot of great memories to Bills fans. However, all good things eventually have to come to an end. With the Bills being strapped with the salary cap, there were a great amount of roster cuts to get out of the negative and Poyer was one of those players that saw the door and went into free agency.
After being released by the Bills, Poyer signed with the division rival Miami Dolphins on a one-year deal. It was a tough reality for Bills fans to accept, but there was no other choice. However, the Bills have been pretty solid at safety for the most part with Taylor Rapp and Damar Hamlin this season. Still though, seeing Poyer in a different jersey, let alone a Dolphins one is still weird to see.
Jordan Poyer set to return to Buffalo this week
To be specific, this will technically be Poyer’s second public return to Buffalo since signing with Miami. Each year, the Bills participate in a charity softball game that is led by Micah Hyde and even though Poyer had signed with a division rival, he still participated in the game and received a huge ovation from the fans that attended.
In addition, we can’t forget about the fact that Poyer told Bills fans in the stands that they still have the best quarterback in the league in Josh Allen, per Matt Parrino.
This will be the first time Poyer is playing in Buffalo since being released by the team and he should get nothing but a standing ovation once again. He brought a lot of joy to the Bills and it will be very surprising if Poyer does not receive some love in front of his old fans.
