When the Buffalo Bills traded away wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans last April and decided to take on a dead cap hit of over $30 million, Brandon Beane was sending a strong message to Bills Mafia. He cares about the team mentality and for him to make that move and take on a huge hit, it just shows how things were behind the scenes with Diggs and the Bills.

Buffalo and Diggs were a fantastic pairing back in 2020, as Diggs played a huge role in the development of Josh Allen, who eventually won his first MVP award of his career this past February. However, all good things must come to an end.

When Diggs was traded to the Texans, his original contract that he had with the Bills was revamped upon arriving to Houston and he essentially played on a one-year deal with the Texans. He would last just eight games before tearing his ACL that sidelined him for the rest of the season.

Diggs is now a free agent and it’s hard to imagine that he returns to Houston, so he will more than likely be looking for his fourth team of his career, but this is the first time he is a free agent.

Stefon Diggs is reportedly visiting the New England Patriots

According to Chad Graff, the former Bills’ star wideout is visiting the New England Patriots, seeing as how the Patriots desperately need wide receiver help.

The Patriots already signed former Bills wideout Mack Hollins last week to a two-year deal, what’s one more signing of a former Bill, I guess? Diggs is approaching the backend of his career and it doesn’t help that he’s coming off a major injury. However, giving now second-year quarterback Drake Maye a proven veteran can help him grow as a passer.

Diggs had his best years with Josh Allen throwing him the ball, consecutively reaching 1,000+ yards every single season in Buffalo. He was also targeted no less than 154 times in a season. He was the go-to guy for a long time for Allen, but tension between he and the team started to brew after his third year.

Once the Bills discovered that they could win without his services, it was time to move on from him. Buffalo did fantastic last season without Diggs, but there were times when Buffalo struggled without having a true go-to guy. That’s why they went out and traded for Amari Cooper originally.

If Diggs does sign within the AFC East, the Bills may see their former All-Pro wideout lineup across from them twice next season. However, it would be very interesting if the Patriots pull of this move considering what has happened with Diggs in his first two stops with Minnesota and Buffalo.
