Even though the NFL free agency frenzy has somewhat calmed down, there are still plenty of options out there for teams. The Buffalo Bills can surely use some more help, especially at cornerback.
The Bills made news yesterday when it was announced that linebacker Matt Milano agreed to a pay cut where he will take a loss of $3 million, but will have the chance to earn it back through incentives, per Jordan Schultz.
According to Spotrac, the Bills have $9.7 million in cap space to use so they could still make a decent signing considering who is left on the market. There are four free agents who have yet to be signed that make too much sense for the Bills not to sign.
4 free agents Buffalo Bills should strongly consider signing
CB Rasul Douglas
This is a pretty obvious fit with Rasul Douglas. He’s been with the Bills since being traded to Buffalo in the middle of the 2023 season. Douglas provided an immediate impact for a secondary that was banged up once Tre’Davious White tore his achilles.
Sure, Douglas had his weak moments last year but without him, Buffalo’s secondary is very weak. Seeing as how the Bills have a desperate need to get a CB2 in the lineup, bringing back Douglas on a one-year deal would make a lot of sense for Buffalo.
CB Tre’Davious White
Sticking with cornerbacks who have played in Buffalo…Tre’Davious White was a big time fan favorite from the time he was drafted to when he was released in 2024. He’s had two major injuries in his career and he’s lost a little bit of a step. However, Buffalo should be able to bring White back on a very cheap one-year deal, compared to Douglas.
After White was released by the Bills last offseason, he signed with the Los Angeles Rams but then was traded to the Baltimore Ravens. At 30 years old, he would be able to fit right into the scheme the Bills play. Even if he’s just a temporary answer to the CB2 answer and the Bills can draft his eventual replacement, it sets the Bills up for long-term success.
DT Raekwon Davis
With the Bills losing Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi for the first six games due to them violating the league’s PED policy, Buffalo needs to bring in more depth to place behind Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones.
Defensive tackle Raekwon Davis should know what it’s like playing in the AFC East seeing as how he was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2020. In his first three years with the Dolphins, he was averaging 12-15 starts. While he has only started in seven games the last two years, with both the Dolphins and Colts, he hasn’t missed a game in that span.
Davis spent last season with the Colts after signing a two-year deal. However, he was a cap casualty and he will now look for his third team of his career. The Bills have the chance to acquire Davis as a rotational player on the defensive line and with him only being 27 years old, he can still prove that he belongs in this league.
RB Nick Chubb
This might cause a heavy conversation considering what the Buffalo Bills’ running back room looks like. However, if the Bills are seriously considering not extending James Cook, who has been demanding $15 million per year, then it would make a lot of sense for the Bills to potentially trade Cook and sign a veteran running back who knows how to play in the cold, much like Nick Chubb.
The four-time Pro Bowler was beyond dominant with the Cleveland Browns, rushing for 1,000+ yards consecutively from 2019-2022. The only major risk to Chubb is that he’s played in ten games the last two seasons.
Would Buffalo ever consider a high risk/high reward running back? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, this kind of move could only be possible if the Bills ever entertained the thought of moving on from Cook if they are deciding to not extend him to his contractual demands.
