The NFL season is coming up rapidly and training camp is right around the corner. The Buffalo Bills will be back at St. John Fisher University prior to preseason and the regular season, and this will be the time when the coaching staff will see who the best players are to put on the field, and who will earn a roster spot in general.
Even though teams have most of their rosters solidified heading into training camp, there are still some quality players available on the free agent market, including players that were just with the Bills last season. However, a former Bills defender who was with the team from the middle of the 2023 season to 2024 is continuing his career in 2026.
Washington Commanders make sneaky good signing with former Bills defender
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Washington Commanders are set to sign cornerback Rasul Douglas to a one-year deal worth up to $3.8 million.

Douglas was traded to the Bills in the middle of the 2023 season after Tre'Davious White tore his achilles, and he ended up playing in Buffalo for the 2024 season as well. The Bills and Douglas did not come to an agreement on an extension or a new contract during free agency last year, and he ended up signing with the Miami Dolphins.
During his time in Buffalo, Douglas helped solidify the secondary and he was phenomenal in his arrival in 2023. In 9 games played, Douglas recorded 4 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, and he also scored a touchdown as well. While his 2024 season wasn’t spectacular, he was still a great player for the defense.
Last year in Miami, Douglas had 62 total tackles to go with 2 interceptions which showed the value that he still provides. If he can continue to go at this rate, the Commanders may have a big steal with him as he can come into Dan Quinn’s defense and bring a new element.
The Commanders were just in the NFC Championship game in the 2024-2025 season, but injuries last year set them back. If they can avoid any major injuries and Douglas can keep playing at the rate that he is, Washington’s defense will be able to help support Jayden Daniels and the offense to make them the championship contender that they were for a brief time.
