There are two positions in football that you can never have enough of; cornerback and edge rusher. Considering how the NFL has moved to more of an offensive-favorite type of game, being able to have solid players who can either rush the quarterback or lockdown some of the top receivers.
The Buffalo Bills have been trying to develop their pass rush for many years now and while they have tried to develop it through the draft and in free agency, it just hasn’t been able to work. Hopefully that changes in 2025.
Buffalo moved on from Von Miller and brought in Joey Bosa to pair with Greg Rousseau, who just signed a big extension to stay in Buffalo. The Bills also signed edge rusher Michael Hoecht in free agency, but he is set to be suspended for six games for violating the league’s PED policy. Now the Bills might be forced to get another pass rusher just to have some depth, but they also will get the opportunity to bring in a rookie who can develop behind Rousseau and Bosa.
PFF lists former SEC pass-rusher as ideal prospect for Bills
Jordan Plocher from Pro Football Focus (PFF) listed early-and-late round options for every single NFL team and for the Bills, Plocher has Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams listed for Buffalo on the first night of the draft.
"With their first pick coming at No. 30, the Bills will likely have to let the board fall to them and select the best defensive player available. Their 58.8 team-run defense grade ranked 26th in the NFL last season. Mykel Williams would be a strong fit, having posted back-to-back seasons with run-defense grades above 80.0 (80.3 in 2023 and 82.9 in 2024)."Jordan Plocher, PFF
In three years at Georgia, Williams showed to be a ferocious edge rusher who averaged 4-5 sacks per season and had more of his breakout year with the Bulldogs.
NFL analyst Lance Zierlein compared Williams to current Bills edge rusher, Greg Rousseau, considering Williams’ size and ability to bull rush off the line of scrimmage. Much like Rousseau coming out of the University of Miami, Williams has a lot of upside and if he lands in an ideal spot, he should thrive.
The Bills are always about tough-nosed football, especially upfront. Adding Williams to the edge rusher room to learn from Rousseau and Bosa could quickly pay off for the Bills. Not to mention, should Bosa be one-and-done in Buffalo, Williams can slide into the starting role and have familiarity.
