If you were to ask a Buffalo Bills fan about free agency overall, there will always be a comment about how general manager Brandon Beane strikes at night when making a splash. He did in 2020 when he traded for Stefon Diggs. He did it again in 2022 when he made arguably the biggest splash in free agency when he signed Von Miller to a massive six-year deal.
He did it again last week Tuesday night when Adam Schefter reported that the Bills and edge rusher Joey Bosa agreed on a one-year deal worth $12.6 million that would bring Bosa to Buffalo.
This came as a little bit of a shock as it was reported by Dianna Russini that the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins were in the sweepstakes to acquire Bosa. Considering how Joey’s younger brother, Nick, currently plays in San Francisco and their father used to play for Miami, it would have been sense for Joey Bosa to sign with one of those teams. Instead, he chose to come to Buffalo to win.
Bills signing Joey Bosa pinned as Buffalo's best offseason move right now
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport created a list of the best offseason moves for each NFL team and to no surprise, the Bills’ best move was acquiring the ferocious pass rusher.
"The Bills swung and missed the last time they went this route with Von Miller. But if Bosa can stay on the field, he and Gregory Rousseau could combine to be a formidable duo on the edge."Gary Davenport, Bleacher Report
It was a smart move for Beane to bring Bosa to Buffalo on a one-year deal, that way there isn’t a long-term commitment, yet. When the Bills brought in Von Miller on his six-year deal, it came back to haunt them when he tore his ACL in 2022 and was never the same player after that.
Bosa is younger and provides more physicality to his pass rush than Miller does. Now, we must recognize the fact that Bosa has an injury history himself as well. At the same time, when he is on the field, he is a one-man wrecking crew and he proved it when he was with the Chargers. While there is still time for Beane to make another big move, it’s hard to imagine that it will pass ahead of the signing of Bosa as Buffalo’s best move.
