The Buffalo Bills will need to have their final 53-man roster solidified by 6PM on Sunday evening and that means that there will be plenty of players looking elsewhere for work this upcoming season. Some players will be released and immediately become free agents, while others will be waived which allows other teams to claim them.
Throughout this summer, the Bills have had plenty of great competition across the roster. Whether it was from NFL veterans or under-the-radar players, fans got to see some great football as the Bills ended their preseason at 3-0.
One player that caught the attention of fans was undrafted free agent cornerback Kani Walker, who signed with the Bills after the 2026 NFL Draft. He played college football at Louisville, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
Walker had a near fantastic summer for the Bills with his ability to stick with receivers and be physcial against the run. He managed to get an interception in Buffalo's first preseason game against the Panthers which only boosted his stock.
Kani Walker had great summer with Bills (but it wasn't enough)
Despite him coming out of nowehere and making the impact that he did, Walker wasn't able to secure a final roster spot. According to Ryan Talbot of Syracuse.com, the Bills have waived Walker but have offered him a practice squad spot should he clear waivers.

This is absolutely shocking considering the fact that the Bills need depth in the secondary and Walker being a standout player. One strength that Brandon Beane and his staff do have is identifying overlooked talent that were drafted late or undrafted to begin with. Walker was turning heads this summer and it seemed like he had a great path to make the final roster.
Instead, he will head to waivers where another team could get him and the Bills would lose him for absolutely nothing.
Bills taking massive risk with waiving Kani Walker
Late round and undrafted hidden gems are extremely hard to find in this league. Now granted, there is a chance that Walker ends up back on the practice squad which is now the ideal situation for the team and fans. At the same time, Walker could easily be claimed by another team that needs the secondary depth.
I get it, you can’t have everyone make the roster and tough decisions are bound to come up. At the same time, the cornerback position has been an inconsistent one in terms of depth over the last few years. Having someone like Walker on the roster would have helped bring stability should an injury pop up with one of the starters.
Now the Bills will have to wait to see if Walker will either come back to the practice squad or play football somewhere else in 2026.
