In just four short days, the NFL Draft will be kicking off live from Pittsburgh and the Buffalo Bills will finally show what direction they will be going in. It’s been a whirlwind of an offseason for the Bills since Sean McDermott was fired.

Brandon Beane not only stayed, but he was promoted to President of Football Operations. After an extensive head coaching search, the Bills opted to promote Joe Brady from offensive coordinator to head coach. The coaching staff is very new that includes new coordinators, and a lot of roster familiarity that was once there is now no longer there.

Going into the NFL Draft this coming week, the Bills have a great amount of needs on defense and they still have to address the wide receiver position to help Josh Allen. Trading for D.J. Moore takes care of the vacant WR1 spot, but Buffalo still has to bring in not just depth, but also immediate competition.

As it stands, the Bills will start off their draft at pick No. 26, but no one would be surprised if the Bills decided to trade out considering that they need more draft capital. However, if they decide to stay put and even draft a wide receiver, then it has to be the right prospect. In Tarringo Basile-Vaughan’s recent mock draft on NFL Mocks, that’s not what happens unfortunately.

Bills draft wrong wide reciever in first round of NFL mock draft

In Basile-Vaughan’s mock draft, the Bills drafted Washington wide receiver Denzel Boston even though receivers like Omar Cooper Jr. and KC Concepcion were still available and picked after.

"Will the Bills take another shot at wide receiver in the early rounds of the 2026 NFL Draft?  Well, Keon Coleman will be looking over his shoulders as the Bills select the 6-foot-4 Denzel Boston who is just the type of target who can excel catching the ball from Josh Allen.  With the addition of DJ Moore to go along with Khalil Shakir, the Bills go with the bigger receiver over the likes of Omar Cooper Jr and KC Concepcion." said Basile-Vaughan.

It’s not that Boston isn’t a solid receiver, but he is not the kind of receiver that Buffalo needs. Buffalo drafted a big receiver in Keon Coleman two years ago. Joe Brady has been emphasizing that Coleman will greatly benefit from him being promoted to head coach. If that is the case, the Buffalo needs a different kind of receiver.

Concepcion creates great separation against defenders and Cooper Jr. is one of the best players on the field when he has the ball in his hands. Now, if both Cooper and Concepcion were off the board already, then selecting Boston would be ideal. However, it would be a mistake for Buffalo to draft another receiver that is similar to Coleman.
