We are less than two weeks away from the NFL Draft kicking off and things are starting to heat up across the league. The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to draft quarterback Fernando Mendoza as the first overall pick, and then the draft will truly begin at No. 2 with the New York Jets.
The Buffalo Bills will be waiting a bit as they aren’t scheduled to pick until the 26th pick and there would be a ton of confusion as to why Buffalo would consider trading up. Now, trading down makes sense considering that they don’t have a second rounder this year.
The moves that the Bills made (and didn’t make) in free agency tells fans the various directions the Bills could go in for the first night of the draft.Â
Specifically, the trade to acquire D.J. Moore from the Chicago Bears gives the Bills some room to not make wide receiver a huge priority to start the draft. However, the Bills still have to address that position as they need atleast another top receiver prospect to add to the offense. Buffalo has had a rough time the last two seasons at the wide receiver position and acquiring Moore doesn't solve every single issue.
Bills draft insight shows Buffalo should not be done addressing WR position
Members of the NFL Nation staff, Matt Miller, and Jordan Reid all provided draft insights for every team going into the draft, and Bills fans received great insight from Reid and Alaina Getzenberg.
"Trading for Moore gives the Bills flexibility to not have to address wide receiver in the first round and prioritize other needs, but it does not mean the position won't and shouldn't be considered early. Help is still needed from both a depth and talent perspective, and president of football operations and general manager Brandon Beane said Buffalo is still open to a receiver in the first round." said Getzenberg.
Getzenberg couldn't have said it better. Buffalo still has a great need at wide receiver, but it's also not only the need that they needed. Jordan Reid then discussed what was being heard about the Bills' draft which focused more on the linebacker spot and Reid even named a specific prospect that should watched during Buffalo's draft.
"Wide receiver and linebacker are the two positions that have been heavily linked to the Bills. Even after the acquisition of Moore, they are looking for true separators who can play a multitude of spots in formations. On the linebacker front, one name to watch is Josiah Trotter (Missouri)." said Reid.
The common trend is that even with Moore coming into this offense, the Bills still have to bring in another wide receiver or two, with one of them ready to step onto the field almost immediately. With having a quarterback like Josh Allen, the Bills must do whatever it takes to give him quality receivers who can create separation.
Bills fans are tired of seeing the offense becoming one-dimensional because their passing attack can’t get going. It’s time to correct the problem and prioritize giving the best quarterback in the league a supportive core around him.
