DJ Moore trade may affect Bills' NFL Draft plans in Round 1 (and it makes sense)

When it was revealed what the Bills gave up to acquire wide receiver DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears, it seemed like a heavy price for a wideout that is entering his 9th year of his career. Buffalo agreed to trade their 2nd-round pick in next month’s NFL Draft in exchange for Moore and a 5th-round pick next month.

At the end of the day though, the Bills are better with Moore than without. Not to mention, Moore instantly becomes the WR1 for the Bills and he won’t have to be competing to make players with a bunch of other high-end playmakers like he did in Chicago last season.

With the Bills trading away their 2nd-round pick but getting a 5th-rounder in return in the trade, they still have seven picks but after their 26th overall pick, they will have to wait quite some time before their next pick in the 3rd-round. However, the Moore trade could easily put the Bills on another path in the draft.

DJ Moore trade may put Bills in position to trade down or out of 1st round

Buffalo currently has the 26th overall pick, but we have seen the Bills trade back before. In 2024, they traded back once in the first round and then eventually traded out of the first round. They would eventually draft Keon Coleman.

Now with the Bills not having a pick in the second round right now, they are in a prime position to potentially trade out and gain not only a second round pick, but other picks as well. With Buffalo having a true go-to receiver for Josh Allen now, trading out of the first round doesn’t seem like such a bad idea now.

Then again, if there is a player that is available at #26 that the Bills want, then it should be a no-brainer for the Bills to make the move. If someone like wideout KC Concepcion or linebacker C.J. Allen was to be available, then it would make a lot of sense for Buffalo to spend the first rounder.

It really just depends on what direction Brandon Beane takes. Whatever the decision that is made, there is a reason why. It may not be the one that fans want, but there is an upside to either decision that Beane makes.
