Even though free agency is starting next week, the Buffalo Bills didn’t waste timing in trying to improve their roster. Adam Schefter reported that the Bills were set to acquire wide receiver DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears. The Bills had a big need at wideout, and now Moore joins as Josh Allen’s immediate No. 1 wideout…for now.

With Chicago having two young rising wide receivers in Rome Odunze and Luther Burden, as well as having tight end Colston Loveland in the mix, Moore was the odd man out but he lands with an AFC contender in Buffalo.

When Schefter reported the news, the compensation was still being worked out between Chicago and Buffalo. However, Dianna Russini reported the official trade details. According to Russini, the Bills are trading a 2026 2nd-round pick in exchange for DJ Moore and a 2026 5th-round pick.

DJ Moore trade details have been revealed between Bills and Bears

Now, when you see the 2nd-round pick being involved in the trade, it may cause some hesitation. However, the Bills get the proven veteran and they get an extra Day 3 pick so their draft picks don’t change numbers wise. Not to mention, Buffalo may have been considering getting a wideout in the second round but instead, they get Moore who will be immediately better than any rookie receiver this coming year.

Wide receiver was Buffalo’s biggest need and they needed to make some kind of move. Getting Moore and adding him to this wide receiver mix is a good start for what could be left to come in free agency and the draft.

Moore was drafted to the Carolina Panthers back in 2018 and would spend five seasons there before getting traded to the Bears in 2023. Moore is coming off statistically his worst season as a pro in terms of receiving yards (682), but he still managed to reel in 6 touchdowns.

He is just two years removed from a 1,300+ yard season with the Bears. Since the Bears have been adding a ton of weapons for Caleb Williams, someone was bound to take a hit statistics wise and that was Moore. However, one thing to keep in mind is that Moore has played in all 17 regular season games going back to the 2021 season.

Moore will be 29 years old next month, still being in his prime and the Bills get an immediate upgrade at wide receiver. It’s a move that Bills fans should have seen coming from a mile away. The trade will be official next Wednesday when the new year begins.
