The Buffalo Bills addressed their biggest need this offseason when they made a deal with the Chicago Bears to acquire DJ Moore, giving Josh Allen his new (and true) No. 1 receiver that he had been missing since Stefon Diggs. The trade for Moore made perfect sense.
Chicago had too many other playmakers on offense and Moore just simply wasn’t a great fit for Ben Johnson’s offense. Buffalo needed a new weapon for Allen, and Moore also reunited with Joe Brady who he worked with in Carolina from 2020-2021.
Fans were excited about the trade when it officially broke, but then once it was discovered that the Bills gave Chicago a 2nd-round pick, a lot of people thought it was an overpay. Sure, there is an argument to be made for it, but at the end of the day, the Bills got better at wide receiver and they ended up making two 2nd-round picks in this year’s NFL Draft. So…it all worked out, so far.
Training camp begins here very soon for the Bills, as they will be back at St. John Fisher University and it will be Moore’s first one in Buffalo. Fans will be watching closely to see how he fits in this offense and how fast he and Josh Allen can click. With training camp rapidly approaching, Bills beat reporter Sal Capaccio gave fans a great reason to be excited for Moore’s first year in Buffalo.
DJ Moore set to surprise Bills fans more than they may have thought
Capaccio recently spoke on the Centered on Buffalo podcast with Eric Wood, and Wood had asked Capaccio about what stood out the most about Moore at OTAs going into training camp:
“His ability to do kind of everything a wide receiver needs to do at the NFL level. You have some guys that are speed merchants. They’re so fast, they can beat you with their speed, they run down the field. If you’re looking for a really good route runner off the line, maybe that player isn’t as good because they’re not as good against press coverage or something. You have your guys that are longer, like Keon Coleman, where he can win at the catch point, but maybe he needs refining in other areas.” said Capaccio.
“DJ Moore just checks all the boxes for me. He reminds me, quite honestly, of Stefon Diggs. I think Stefon Diggs was very much like this when they got Stefon Diggs. You realize right away that he can win at all three levels…He can win horizontally and vertically.” Capaccio added.

When Diggs arrived in Buffalo, he immediately helped this offense become the powerhouse that it is today. It would not be surprising to see Moore have a similar impact since he is the clearcut No.1 receiver. What makes it even more exciting is that the Bills have other weapons like Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid, so teams won’t be able to double cover Moore.
