Another season has come and gone for the Buffalo Bills and it’s the same result. A playoff loss that ended in heartbreak and the Bills continue their streak of not winning a Super Bowl despite having Josh Allen at quarterback.
Since the 2019-2020 season that started with the Bills losing in overtime to the Houston Texans, the Bills have lost in heartbreaking fashion almost every single season. Most of their playoff losses came at the hands of Patrick Mahomes. One year, it was Joe Burrow that knocked Buffalo out of the playoffs.
This was the first playoff bracket in awhile where the Bills finally had the chance to go all the way without running into their past problems. Both Mahomes and Burrow were not in the postseason, and Allen was clearly the best quarterback in the AFC heading into the playoffs.
However, the Bills still couldn’t get over the hump as they lost to a second-year quarterback in Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos despite putting up 30 points and forcing overtime.
All of the options have been exhausted. The Bills have lost with Mahomes and Burrow in the playoffs, and now have lost without them in it. It’s time to admit the hard truth about the Bills after this recent loss.
Bills are no longer a true Super Bowl contender, just a regular playoff team
Every single season, the Bills are pinned as Super Bowl contenders. They are known as a team that can truly win it all. After this loss to the Broncos though, not anymore.
Until Buffalo can actually make the Super Bowl, they should not be considered true contenders. Sure, fans should believe and it would be absolutely amazing to see the Bills bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Western New York. At the same time, the reality shows that Buffalo is no longer a true contender for the Lombardi until they prove it.
You could make the arguments on why Buffalo hasn’t made it yet. It could be because of coaching or the structure of the roster. Either way, the common denominator is that Buffalo failed once again and that is absolutely heartbreaking.
