If there is one unit that Buffalo Bills fans are eager to watch this upcoming season, it’s the defense. Brandon Beane sent a message to the fans and the rest of the NFL that the Bills’ defense will be revamped both for the short-term and long-term future. During free agency and the NFL Draft, the Bills brought in help in the trenches and in the secondary.

They added Tre’Davious White, Joey Bosa, Michael Hoecht, and Larry Ogunjobi in free agency. Then they drafted Max Hairston, T.J. Sanders, Deone Walker, Landon Jackson, Jordan Hancock, and Dorian Strong. This past offseason could be the main reason why we look back to see why the Bills were a great defensive team in 2025.

Second year defensive coordinator Bobby Babich has shown that he can call a defense, but he had growing pains as a first time coordinator. Now coming back for his second season and a bunch of new pieces to work with along the returners, he can easily set himself up to become a potential head coaching candidate in the near future.

However, he has a big task ahead of him and that is getting this defense to perform well in the playoffs.

Bobby Babich and Bills defense will make-or-break Buffalo's 2025 season

Jeffri Chadiha from NFL.com recently listed the biggest challenge that each NFL team is facing going into this season. For the Bills, Chadiha’s statement was quite simple; "Being reliable on defense when it matters most." Here's a bit on what Chadiha said about the Bills:

"The Bills have been championship contenders for each of the last five seasons, but a similar theme annually seems to emerge: Their defense falls apart in the playoffs. That can’t be the case again for a team that has plenty of reasons to believe it can finally get past the Kansas City Chiefs for AFC supremacy."

"All in all, it looks promising on paper. The bigger question -- for a team that has allowed an average of 33.2 points to opponents in its last five playoff losses -- is how it will look come January."

No one can say that Josh Allen and the offense has been the problem in the playoffs for the Bills. It all comes down to the defense and their lack of production when it matters the most. Babich has the chance to utilize the new players he has, along with the returning ones to finally be the reason why the Bills are celebrating late in the playoffs rather than going home with a heartbreak.
